Quarter Miler, Ogazi Samuel Bags Team Nigeria's 7th CYG Gold Medal

Team Nigeria's impressive outing at the seventh edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) currently ongoing in the Caribbeans, got even better on Tuesday with Ogazi Samuel winning the men's 400 meters Gold medal in a time of 46.99 Secs.


Samuel's winning time was almost a full second, ahead of winner of the Silver medal, Austin Malachi of Guyana who was 2nd with 47.97 Secs and Beck Alexander of England who clinched the Bronze by finishing in 3rd position with 48.20 Secs.


Another Nigerian youngster in the final Olawale Olarwnwaju finished in 7th spot, with a time of nearly 49 Seconds.


Team Nigeria are competing at the games being held in the Port of Spain, capital of Trinidad and Tobago with 25 athletes, aged between fourteen (14) and eighteen (18) years, and are presently eighth (8th) position on the Games medal table with 3 Golds and 1 Silver medal.


Australia sits at the summit of the log with 13 Gold, 12 Silver and 10 Bronze medals. England is second with 9 Gold, 12 Silver and 5 Bronze medals, while Africa's best performing nation at the games is South Africa, whose 6 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze medals puts them at 4th. www.ckdmedia.ng reports.
