The former captain of U17 and U20 team, Kelechi Nwakali spoke with www.ckdmedia.ng about who inspired him as a player.
“I grew up watching Kanu Nwankwo as a legend of the round leather game. When I began to play for the National team, there was an opportunity to meet with him and I was so glad to meet a football legend. He was part of the reasons why I signed with Arsenal football club.
“My coach in U17 days, Coach Emmanuel Amuneke told me that I have a great potential, that I can succeed as a footballer and those words brought out my confidence level and that is the tonic needed to play in Europe.
“Today, I am in the Super Eagles team in Cameroon. I waited so long for this opportunity and it finally came. I hope to utilize it and give a worthy representation, if given the chance to play”.
The Creative midfielder concluded by saying, “I am optimistic of our chance to do well in this AFCON. We are hungry to excel”, he concluded.
