Usule Martins stars as Tornadoes returns to winning ways

Niger Tornadoes return to winning ways after recording a slim victory over visiting Shooting Stars in one of the NPFL matchday 7 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja the adopted home ground of the Ikon Allah Boys.


Martins Usule's solitary strike on 34th minute ensured that Tornadoes secured the maximum points against the 3SC in Abuja.


It was a fascinating encounter as the game lived up to its pre-match media hype.


It was the visitors that created the first scoring opportunity when Isiaka Mutiu stepped forward to hit a delightful freekick from the edge of the box which narrowly missed the target with just 8 minutes into the proceedings.


3SC continued their dominance and could have had their noses in front on 13th minute when a perfect square pass from Ndedi Henry fell kindly to the feet of Olatunji Damilare whose close range effort went inches away from target.


The CR stopped the game on 14 minutes for the medics to attend to Niger Tornadoes goalie, Lucky Jimoh who sustained a career threatened injury. The goalkeeper could not continue and was later replaced by George Micheal the reserve goalie.


Niger Tornadoes would then break the deadlock on 23rd minute through Martins Usule who smashed a rocket into the back of the net after connecting well to a humble pass from Ahmadu Liman.


The Ikon Allah Boys continued their dominance in the game as they put their opponents on the back foot with some crisp passes in the middle of the park orchestrated by Ahmadu Liman


Usule Martins could have completed his brace on 35th minute when he surged forward from the left flank after a deft touch but his curling attempt was blocked by 3SC's Olatunji Damilare.


The away side regained possession and piled some pressure on Tornadoes with 3 minutes before halftime break as they won consecutive corner kicks but execution let them down.


Tornadoes defended well to maintain their slender lead as the referee sounded his whistle for half time break.


Both coaches introduced some fresh legs at the early minutes of the second half to beef of up their respective teams.


Shooting could have restored parity on 53rd minutes when Olatunji Damilare's thunderous freekick was smartly saved by Micheal Jimoh who rose brilliantly to finger-tip the effort


Munir Idris finally doubleTornadoes advantage on 56th minute when a clever header from Martins Usule was not properly parried by Shooting goalie for Munir to poke into an empty net and increase Tornadoes goals tally.


3SC stepped up their performance and dominated the proceedings as they continued to search for equalizer.


Oche Josiah could have made it 3 - 0 but he missed a belter from close range after a clever interchange from Tornadoes.


The referee sounded his whistle to put the game to an end as Tornadoes ran away with 2 nil victory.


Martins Usule was crowned as the king of the match for exhibiting five stars performance.
