Tobi Amusan Takes First Diamond League Gold, Blames Wet In Stockholm Track For Slow Time

July, 3 2023.

Nigeria's World Champion in women's 100 hurdles, Tobi Amusan on Sunday made the most of the absence of her fierce rival, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn

of Puerto Rico to take Gold at the Stockholm leg of the Diamond League, the last of the three races she ran in six days.

On a night Camacho-Quinn was not on the starting list, Amusan won the series in Stockholm, Sweden in a time of 12.52 Seconds in wet and difficult conditions on the track, www.ckdmedia.ng reports.

Amusan who is also the World Record holder pulled away from the field, and eventually won ahead of Ireland’s Sarah Lavin who finished strong to clock a personal best time of 12.73 Seconds with

Pia Skrzyszowska of Poland settling for third in 12.78 Seconds.

Speaking after the race, Amusan could not hide her joy; “I am excited to be out here competing and it's great to get the win on the back of Lausanne (silver),” Amusan said.

“The rain stopped but it was still very cold. I am not very happy with where I am but I trust in the process even when it's not necessarily processing right", she added.

The winning time of Team Nigeria's poster girl, was however slower than the timings of her two previous races, in a space of four days.

At the Diamond League meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland on Friday, Amusan crossed the line in 12.45 Seconds, an improvement on the 12.47 Seconds she returned at the Golden Spike League event in Ostrava, the Czech Republic, which was her first Season's Best of 2023.
