... Kalu Nweke Promises Enugu Fans More Goals


Technical Adviser of Rangers Int'l FC of Enugu, Fidelis Ilechukwu has lauded the State Government, Management of Rangers, his players and fans of the club for making their return to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, aka the Cathedral a resounding success.


Ilechukwu gave the larvish praise, moments after Rangers defeated Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, 2-0 in their Match Day 16 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), classic played on the relayed turf of the stadium.


Ilechukwu paid glowing tribute to Governor Peter Mbah for working in sync with the management of the Flying Antelopes headed by Barrister Ekene Ezeaku (CEO and GM), in ensuring that their return to Enugu a reality in the shortest possible time,.


While the playing surface was completely scraped off for the relay and renovation of the adjoining components of the pitch, Rangers opted to play all their home matches in the 2023/23 Abridge season at the Awka Township Stadium, where they also hosted seven home games, this term.


It's great to be back and hosting our home games at the Cathedral. A lot must have gone into this, and the Governor deserves the applause. The players did well to adjust, because the ball seemed to be slow while bouncing on the turf. Hopefully with time it will get better, and we will score more goals to appreciate the huge crowd that were here to cheer Rangers", Ilechukwu said.


The Victory Over 3SC was never in doubt after Kalu Nweke scored the opener in the 27th minute, to write his name in the folklore of the club, as scorer of the first goal, at the Cathedral, which now wears a Hybrid artificial grass surface,

Speaking to the media after the match, Nweke was full of praise for fans of the club, and assured them that there's more to come from him this season, and beyond.


'It feels good to be back here in Enugu, and playing before thousands of our fateful. They deserved this win, and as a striker, I know me and every other player in the team, will keep churning out goals to entertain them, whenever we play here." Nweke assured.


Chiedozie Okorie scored on the stroke of 90 minutes to seal the comfortable win, and all three points on offer, for Rangers; who moved up to 9th in the table, with 22 points from 15 matches played.


Rangers will look to continue their rejuvenation, when they face Bendel Insurance of Benin a Match Day 17 classic, to be played , at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium., next midweek; www.ckdmedia.ng reports.
