Super Eagles eligible, Chuba Akpom was beamed in the limelight on Sunday night, as winners of the 2023 EFL Awards 2023 were unveiled at a glittering ceremony in London.
The star-studded evening at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, was a perfect setting for clubs, players, managers and fans to be recognized for their achievements in the outgoing season.
Sky Bet Championship Player of the Season was won by Chuba Amechi Akpom, the division's top marksman with 28 league goals, that have helped in firing Middlesbrough into promotion contention.
"I am super grateful," the 27 year old Akpom said. "It has been years of hard work to get to this stage, so I am over the moon. It’s been an amazing season but I’ve had a lot of downs, getting injured earlier in the season".
"The new manager came in at the perfect time and he probably brought out the best in me, put me in the number 10 and I’ve been enjoying it ever since." the former Arsenal man added.
The Young Player of the Season was scooped by Alex Scott. The Bristol City starlet Alex Scott added to his accolades with the Championship Young Player of the Season, establishing himself in Nigel Pearson's side.
Bristol Rovers forward Aaron Collins wins League One Player award and Northampton Town’s Sam Hoskins wins League Two accolade.
Meanwhile, Burnley Manager, Vincent Kompany was named EFL Championship Manager of the Season, with his side closing in on the league title having already secured promotion back to the premier league.
