Sunusi Ibrahim's Historic Goal and An Assist Off the Bench Grabs Major Headlines In the MLS

Nigeria International, Sunusi Ibrahim stole the headlines when he came on as a substitute to help his side, CF Montreal grab a share of the spoils in a dramatic 2-2 draw, with DC United in an American Major League Soccer match played on Wednesday.


The former CHAN Eagles forward came on when it was two goals down, but he scored in the 80th minute to halve the deficit and turned provider two minutes later for Ariel Lassiter, who netted in the 82nd minute to help CF Montreal snatch a draw, from the jaw of defeat.


Sunusi's game changing performance in the match is still being talked about and analyzed in all major media outlets, including the World Leader in sports, ESPN.


His club hierarchy and team mates are also basking in the euphoria of both the outcome of the match and Sunusi's top notch contributions in the game, despite starting from the bench, ckdmedia.ng reports.


Sunusi who came on in the 61st minute became the second player in CF Montreal's history to record a goal and an assist off the bench in the same game.

D.C. United opened the scoring just before halftime when Donovan Pines headed in a cross from Mateusz Klich for his second goal of the season.

Theodore Ku-Dipietro sent home a deflected ball in front of the net to make it 2-0 in the 59th.


The two teams will meet again July 26 at Stade Saputo in the group phase of the Leagues Cup.

Sunusi Ibrahim was the former joint highest goal scorer of the Nigerian top flight league, the NPFL alongside Mfon Udoh, when he was plying his trade for Nasarawa United. Precisely, he was just eighteen (18) and that made him the youngest player ever to have won the highest goal scorer's award in the NPFL.
