Team Nigeria's captain to the just ended Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan Aruna Quadri has heaped praises on minister of youth and Sports development, Sunday Dare.

Aruna stated this shortly after his arrival from the games where he noted that most of the achievement of team Nigeria at the games could be attributed to the giant stride by the minister.

" I am one of the beneficiaies of the adopt an athlete initiative of the honourable minister and almost half of the contingent that went to Tokyo for the games also benefited. This is the way to grow sports in the country, the government cannot do it alone".

Aruna further stated that with the positives recorded at the games in Tokyo, the future of Nigerian sports is brighter especially as the preparation for the Paris 2024 games starts now.

Team Nigeria finished the Tokyo Olympics with 2 medals, 1 Silver courtesy of Blessing Oborududu in wrestling and 1 Bronze medal won by Ese Brume in long jump an improvement from the 2012 Olympics in London and the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil

It will be recalled that minister of youth and Sports development Sunday Dare launched the "adopt an athlete" initiative in early 2020, and since then Nigerian athletes both home and abroad have benefited from the initiative.
