The final of the inaugural edition of the 2023 Pre-season football tournament, otherwise called the Naija Super 8, will be contested by two South-West teams, Remo Stars and Sporting Lagos FC, following the conclusion of the semifinal fixtures on Friday.
Remarkably, both teams won their last four duels, with identical 2-1 victories, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.
First to qualify was Remo Stars who raced to a 2-0 lead, before in-form forward, Joseph Atule scored for Lobi Stars to halve the deficit.
But there were no further goals as the Sky Blues from Ikenne romped into the final, where they will face Sporting Lagos, on Sunday.
The newly promoted NPFL side got the job done, despite conceding first from a contentious penalty, won by Sodiq Rilwan and calmly despatched by Cyril Olisema just before the interval.
On resumption from the break, an impressive Sporting build-up finally found Saturday Okon who drew Sporting FC level.
The new kids on the NPFL block, then won it in the 70th minute, when Jonathan Alukwu who assisted the equalizer, turned scorer with a close range header, as the Promise Keepers got overwhelmed.
Ironically, the two sides were the wildcard teams, that joined the six zonal play-off winners, at a tournament, held in Abat, Akwa Ibom State, www.ckdmedia.ng reports.
Sunday's final between Remo Stars vs Sporting Lagos FC, which is more or less another South-West derby in the NPFL, kick-off at 5pm; and will be live both on Supersport and GOtv.
