Captain of Nigeria's Golden Eaglets, Precious Williams led his teammates to an opening day win at the WAFU B U-17 tourney over host Ghana 2-4 at the Cape Coast stadium on Saturday evening.
The HB Academy product scored Nigeria's second goal to double the team's lead after Simoiben Academy youngster, Emmanuel Michael had scored the opener with a scintillating freekick.
After Ghana's goalie failed to handle a ball, Jubril Azeez made it 3-0 to the Nigerian team before Ghana pulled one back. The Eaglets will however score a fourth goal through Light Eke to go 1-4 up, but Ghana's skipper Collins Agyemang converted a penalty to end scoring at 2-4.
Precious Williams showed great anticipation and reaction to pounce on a parried shot that flew from his team mate, Kevwe and buried the loose ball expertly.
Left back and first goal scorer, Emmanuel Michael was awarded man of the match for his robust display both in attacking and in defending.
The Nigerian team could not have asked for a better start to the championship than outscoring their perennial arch-rivals and host, the Black Starlets in a game that means more than three points for both nations.
Nigeria will next take on Togo and will be looking to consolidate on their opening day victory against the Baby Hawks of Togo in their second and final group game.
