Shammasu Late Strike Hands Nasarawa United Win over Enyimba

A late strike from Shammasu Mohammed was all Nasarawa United needed to beat Enyimba Int'l FC at the Lafia City Stadium.


The Match Day 10 fixture came to life when Enyimba took the lead 13th minutes after Victor Mbaoma's left footed kick ended up in the back of the net.


Nasarawa United responded almost instantly but couldn't level up the scores after Tochukwu's tried his luck from afar but his effort couldn't trouble Djeri Bassa in goal for Enyimba.


The Solid miners even the scores when debutant Tolulope Oluwole acrobatically hit the ball beyond the reach of Djeri.


Moment of controversy ensued as Emeka Obioma's half volley raffled the cross bar before landing on the line with Enyimba players protesting for a goal.


The home team struggled to create chances as Enyimba dominated play as the first half ended.


The second half was more of a battle between both sides as both goalie were tested at the early minutes.


Enyimba broke loose 16 minutes into second half as Emeka Obioma tried to find Ekene Awazie with a clever cross but Ude Gabriel was on hand to clear the danger.


Consequently, the visitors continued to mount pressure on the Solid Miners in a bid to restore their lead and could have scored on 64th minute but Ugochukwu Gabriel was at his best again as he cleared an inpending danger for a corner.


Nasarawa United capitalized on Enyimba defensive blunder as Mohammed Shammasu raced to a loose ball and unleashed a rocket from the edge of the box but goalkeeper Djeri parried the to safety.


Nasarawa United nicked it at the dying minutes when Michael Tochukwu freed Abdullahi Abubakar at the far right before the full back's cutback was expertly poked in from close range to a wild celebration from the home fans.


Ugochukwu Gabriel was adjudged to be the man of the match as his performance was top notch.


While reacting Coach Finidi George revealed "My team should have done better in the first half as we created series of chances but unable to score none.


He finally said "We will return home to restrategize and hopefully we will get the maximum points in our next game against Sunshine Stars in Akure
