SSC Napoli and Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen was again on target, as the Serie A leaders comfortably won 2-0 at Sassuolo, on Friday night.
Aside being his 100th career goal, the beautiful goal scored by Osimhen at Sassuolo, on Friday night; and the resultant victory for Napoli has varied connotations.
First it is the 18th league goal for Osimhen, who is this season, putting in his best performances since his arrival at Napoli and is determined to finish the season as the top scorer, in the Italian Serie A.
The 2015 FIFA Under-17 World Cup Golden Boot winner thus netted his 19th goal in all competitions, this season as Napoli defeated Sassuolo 2-0 at the MAPEI Stadium – Città del Tricolore (Reggio nell’Emilia).
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened set the tone, by scoring the opener for Napoli with a brilliant solo goal in the 12th minute; whilst Osimhen doubled the advantage in the 32nd minute when he rifled the ball home from an almost impossible angle.
He found himself with two defenders and scarcely had the space to shoot but being a player in good scoring form lately, he found a way, and peharps caught everyone including the Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli, off guard when he produced the delightful shot.
Statistically, with the goal in the bag, Osimhen is now the first SSC Napoli player to have scored in seven straight Serie A matches, since the 1994-1995 season, when the three points for a win era began.
Osimhen looked a little bit tired and was replaced by Giovanni Simeone with five minutes left on the clock.
With the victory and 3 points, Napoli sit eighteen points clear of second placed Inter Milan in the provisional Serie A standing.
