Remo Stars underlined their credentials as an emerging powerhouse in Nigeria football by trouncing their regional rivals, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan 3-0 on Friday, in the playoff for a place in the season ending Naija Super 8 tournament.
Andy Okpe, Boniface Nwaeze and Samuel Anaekwe scored a goal each, as Remo Stars who finished the recently concluded NPFL season unbeaten and in 2nd spot to book a place in next season's CAF Champions League, continued their heroics.
Coach Daniel Ogunmodede's side will now represent the South-West in the main Naija Super 8 tournament in Lagos next month, along with Lobi Stars of Makurdi, www.ckdmedia.ng reports.
Lobi Stars which ended the season on a low by finishing in bottom spot of the six teams that featured at the NPFL Super 6, punched their ticket by edging NNL side, Abuja City 4-3 on penalties, after their North Central playoff had ended in a 2-2 draw.
On Saturday, Yobe Desert Stars will face Gombe United in a North-East playoff at 1pm, while newly crowned NPFL Champions Enyimba FC of Aba slugs it out with Heartland of Owerri a fiery Oriental derby, billed to kick-off at 4pm.
The eagerly anticipated North-West derby between Kano Pillars and Katsina United kicks-off at 1pm on Sunday, before the show-stopping Niger Delta derby between Rivers United and Bendel Insurance of Benin, which will produce the South-South representative, gets underway at 4pm.
The play-offs at the remodeled Akwa Ibom Stadium in Eket is featuring the two teams that polled the highest number of fan votes from each of the six geo-political zones of the country, slugging it out for the sole ticket allocated to each region for the Naija Super 8, to be hosted at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos from July 7-16, 2023.
The six regional winners will be joined by two sides to be given wild cards by the Organisers of the money spinning tournament.
