In the annual lecture on Youth O’Clock Unbundling the Age Myth and Blending Generations delivered at the Trenchard Hall University of Ibadan, Mr. Dare outlined the potentials of the youth as agents for accelerated development. According to him, Nigeria’s youth population is an asset that must not be ignored while submitting that the young people in Nigeria are in good hands.
“The Young Population right now are lucky to have a youth friendly President currently in the saddle. From the blast of the whistle, we have seen in public glare his commitment to changing the youth narrative. With Inclusivity as a watch word, we have seen President Tinubu unequivocally appoint many youths into key positions. Beyond this, we have seen key youth friendly policies from the Student Loan Scheme and structure around it to make sure it endures and impactful to the Consumer Credit Scheme to remove structural, market and policy barriers and accelerate access to consumer credit to 50 per cent of all working Nigerians”.
Mr. Dare however cautioned that the youth must replace their often combative nature towards the youth to that of cooperation since both young and old need each other.
Mr. Dare navigated how the often complex relationship between the young and older generations and submitted that, “ as much as we want to extol the capabilities of the youth in bringing transformation to our societies, we must bring to bear the enormous benefits the youths stand to gain in collaborating with the older generation. The older generation is an embodiment of wisdom and accumulated experiences”.
