President Bola Tinubu, alongside First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, played host to esteemed Super Falcons striker and 2023 CAF Women's Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, in Lagos on Thursday.

Celebrating her sixth title as the best African female footballer, President Tinubu and the First Lady conveyed their heartfelt congratulations to the Barcelona Femeni star during the gathering.

The President and the First Lady expressed their admiration for Oshoala's exceptional prowess in the sport, highlighting her significant contributions to advancing women's football across the continent.

In a statement, President Tinubu remarked, "Nigerian women will always hold a revered place in the global landscape. The achievements of our women in football are emblematic of their success in various fields worldwide. They continuously rise to prominence, embodying the quintessence of Nigerian values such as excellence, resilience, ingenuity, and tenacity."

Recognizing the remarkable achievements of other Nigerian women, such as star sprinter Tobi Amusan and the presence of multiple Nigerian figures on Forbes' '2023 World's 100 Most Powerful Women' list—including media mogul Ms. Mo Abudu and World Trade Organization Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala—the President and the First Lady assured Oshoala of the nation's unwavering support. They pledged continued encouragement for her and other Nigerian women striving for excellence in their respective endeavors.

Following the warm reception, Asisat Oshoala expressed her gratitude to the President and the First Lady, acknowledging their support during challenging times, particularly citing their intervention and ongoing backing for the girls' team even after the last World Cup concluded.

This event marks a significant recognition of women's achievements, with President Tinubu championing their excellence across various domains, reinforcing Nigeria's commitment to supporting women's success.
