September, 10 2023.

SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen netted three times, as the Super Eagles of Nigeria mauled their counterparts from Sao Tome and Principe 6-0, as their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group A qualifying campaign came to a glorious wrap.

Osimhen scored once in the 17th minute as the first half ended 2-0 in favour of the Eagles, as Atalanta Bergamo's Haruna Lookman got the other goal 10 minutes later.

The resistance of the visitors could however not match the firepower of the Super Eagles, for whom Osimhen got two more goals in the 70th and 80th minutes, that's after Nothingham Forest's inform striker, Taiwo Awoniyi scored in the 51st minute to have his name on the scorers sheet.

Samuel Chukwueze, who joined AC Milan during the summer from Villarreal of Spain, then put the icing on the cake by scoring Nigeria's sixth goal, with three minutes of regulation time left to play.

Remarkably, five of the six goals came from the legion of Super Eagles players, plying their trade in Italy's Serie A, as Nigeria won the group with 15 points.

Even before kicking a ball on Sunday, the three-time African Champions, who are looking to win their fourth Afcon title, had qualified for the finals to be played in Côte d'Ivoire, in January next year, along with the African Wild Dogs of Guinea-Bissau.

Guinea-Bissau on the other hand are home to Sierra Leone in Bissau, in what is more or less a dead rubber; www.ckdmedia.ng reports.
