NPFL Super 6: Rivers Utd Looks to Build on Winning Start; Sunshine Stars Seeks First Points

June, 4 2023.

_As Lobi Stars & Enyimba are Locked in Day 2 Opener_

Three more fixtures are on the card, as the thrills, frills and excitement of the Nigeria Premier League (NPFL) Super 6 Play-offs will resume on Monday, with all six teams in action.

The first match of the day will see Lobi Stars take on Enyimba International of Aba, starting from 2pm, in a match neither of the teams can afford to lose, after dropping points on Saturday.

Record eight-time champions, Enyimba were held 2-2 by their less illustrious opponents, Remo Stars; prompting their Head Coach Finidi George to suggest his team ought to have defended better.

Like Enyimba, Lobi Stars had the better exchanges in their match against Bendel Insurance, but neither side scored, and the Benin Arsenal held on to extend their unbeaten run, with a goalless draw.

Next on the card at 4pm is the encounter between Remo Stars and reigning champions, Rivers United. The Pride of Rivers will be banking on the superlative performance of left back, Oluebube Duru on Day 1, to harvest their second 3 points in successive games, having edged Sunshine Stars 1-0 on Saturday to become the only side with a win, thus far.

Day-2 fixture will be rounded off with Bendel Insurance of Benin, the only side in the play-offs still with a possibility of winning a domestic double, taking to the pitch against pointless Sunshine Stars of Akure.

Remarkably, both teams met less than two weeks ago in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Federation Cup, in Awka; where Imade Osarenkhoe scored the only goal of the tie, from the spot, in the 56th minute to oust the Akure Gunners, ckdmedia.ng reports.

Edit Agoye tutored Sunshine Stars qualified for the Super 6 with the least points tally (27); but the former Shooting Stars of Ibadan head coach has asked pundits not to write-off the chances of his team, yet.

Like on Day-1, organizers of the season ending championship (IMC) have assured that the audio-visuals and live commentaries of all three matches, to be played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, in Onikan Lagos; will be broadcast live on Supersport and streamed live.
