NPFL MD 9: Top Scorer Chukwuemeka Obioma Can Propel Enyimba to Victory Against Bendel Insurance

February, 19 2023.

All but two matchday 9 fixtures of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) are on the card at various approved match venues in the country, on Sunday.

Top on the schedule is the encounter in Benin, between Bendel Insurance and Enyimba of Aba, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

Insurance are the only unbeaten side in either side of the Abridged League, and are currently sitting pretty at the summited of the log, with 6 wins and 2 draws, making it 20 points; 4 points clear of Enyimba FC, who parades in their ranks, the leagues top scorer, Chukwuemeka Obioma (7 goals) from eight matches.

Another game that will be closely followed on Sunday is in Jos, where Coach Bala Nkiyu needs an Outright win against Remo Stars, to be able to persuade his employees to keep trusting in his philosophy.

Remo Stars are comfortable, on 16 points; while Nasarawa United are rock bottom of the Group A with just 4 points from a solitary win, a draw, and six losses.

Promoted El-kanemi Warriors are again expected to play behind closed stadium gates, when hosting Kabiru Dogo's Kwara United, in Maiduguri.

2021 Champions, Akwa United of Uyo are guests of 3SC at the Adamasimba Stadium, in Ibadan and the tie has a mini plot, in two former Head Coaches of Sunshine Stars of Akure, Coach Ayeni and Gbenga Ogunbote going head-to-head, for the first time this term.

But action in this Group will be rounded off on Monday, when Gombe United with 7 points so far, will be looking to jumpstart their season, by beating Plateau United of Jos; at the Pantami Stadium.

Group B Leaders, Lobi Stars of Makurdi could find promoted Doma United, a tough nut to crack, as they look to return to winning ways, having lost at midweek; Sunshine Stars should be weary of a resurgent Wikki Tourists of Bauchi, when both sides face off in Akure; just as troubled Bayelsa United play host to stuttering Enugu Rangers in Yenagoa.

Having gone four games without a win, Niger Tornadoes will fancy their chances of ceasing all 3 points, when hosting Dakkada FC of Uyo, in Kaduna.

The encounter between Abia Warriors of Umuahia and Rivers United is postponed indefinitely by the IMC, to allow the reigning NPFL Champions prosecute their Day-2 fixture, in the CAF Confederation Cup, against Asec Mimosas of Côte d'Ivoire, in Uyo, on Sunday.

The Pride of Rivers were roundly beaten 3-0 on Day-1 by Diables Noirs of Congo, with all three goals, scored in the first half.

On the other hand, ASEC Mimosas of Côte d'Ivoire drew in Abidjan, with DC Motema Pembe of the DR Congo, meaning Rivers United is at present bottom of the Group.
