NPFL MD 16 Preview: Highflyers Doma Utd Poised to Feast on Grieving Sunshine Stars

December, 26 2023.

After pulsing the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to observe the Christmas and Boxing Day festivities, action will resume in the nation's top flight, with a full programme of midweek fixtures, to be decided at designated venues, across the country.

The only Day 16 game to be played on Wednesday, pits Sunshine Stars of Akure against highflyers, Doma United FC of Gombe who are now being accorded some recognition, as genuine title contenders, given their superb performances, and the numbers returned so far, this season.

At 28 points, and after 15 matches played, Doma United coached by Akinade Onigbinde are second in the NPFL table; just one point adrift of the log leaders, Remo Stars of Ikenne.

Remarkably, their 1-0 victory over Katsina United in their last game at their fortress, the Pantami Stadium, was their tenth clean sheet of the campaign, and the eleventh time, their goalkeeper Kingdom Osayi has not conceded this season.

Sunshine Stars tutored by Edith Agoye have been one of the Yoyo teams so far this season, and should be glad to leave Gombe with a point, considering the form that have seen the Savannah Tigers silence tougher teams, at the Pantami Stadium.

The team has had torrid times recently, culminating to the death of Taiwo Dosunmu, the club’s Assistant Kits Manager, who passed away a few days ago, as a result of gunshot wounds he sustained in an armed robbery on December 7th; on their way to Benin for Day 16 Fixture against Insurance of Benin; www.ckdmedia.ng reports.

Heartland FC vs Remo Stars

Lobi Stars vs Niger Tornadoes

Rivers United vs Bendel Insurance

Bayelsa United vs Enyimba Int'l

Kano Pillars vs Kwara United

Plateau United vs Sporting FC

Abia Warriors vs Gombe United
