_Odigie in Pole Position for Coaches' Award
Nominations for the League Bloggers Association (LBA) Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Player of the Month, for February 2023 have been made public.
The nominees are Lobi Stars of Makurdi forward, Joseph Atule; Bayelsa United’s star forward Robert Mizo, and Akwa United’s Uche Collins got their first nomination, this season.
The pair of Amas Obasogie and Imade Osarenkhoe of Bendel Insurance FC; Osarenkhoe with six goals so far, is arguably the most recognizable player in the NPFL; while goalkeeper Amas Obasogie gets a second nomination for his heroics in between the sticks for Insurance, who remains unbeaten this term.
Chukwuemeka Obioma of Enyimba International of Aba is the current top scorer with 7 goals, which includes a pair of braces in consecutive games in February.
Monday Odigie of Bendel Insurance of Benin, unbeaten in the five matches he played in February, to remain top of the Group A table, headlines three other tacticians for the Coach of the month - February.
Odigie steered the Benin Arsenal to successfully trips to Maiduguri and Ibadan, two difficult grounds
against El-Kanemi Warriors and Shooting Stars Sports Club to earn his nomination.
Also nominated for the Coach of the Month award are, Deji Ayeni of Akwa United; Finidi George of Enyimba and Mohammed Baba Ganaru of Group B table toppers, Lobi Stars of Makurdi.
Like Odigie, Ganaru got his second nomination in a row; while the duo of George and Ayeni make the shortlist for the first time this term.
The Players Award for January was scooped by 22 year old Imade Osarenkhoe whose superb form saw him score four goals in five NPFL appearances, including the opener in their 3-0 thrashing of Remo Stars.
Meanwhile, his Coach – Monday Odigie who won all four of Bendel Insurance games in January, won the award, for Coach of the Month.
The LBA is the foremost organisation recognizing and celebrating outstanding performers in the NPFL since 2009.
It extended its reach to the second tier Nigeria National League and Women’s League, in 2017.
