NPFL 2023: Flurry of Draws on Day-7 as Insurance and Lobi Stars Lead the Mini Standings

Bendel Insurance of Benin dropped valuable points, for the second straight game, when being held to a 2-2 pulsating draw, by hard fighting 3SC of Ibadan, in what arguably was the standout match of Day-7 of the Abridged 2022/2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), played at the Adamasimba Stadium, Ibadan.


Haven been held goalless by Gombe United on Day-6; Insurance responded well by taking an early lead through Imade Osarenkhoe (his 5th of the season), before Ismael Seriki doubled the lead in the 37th min.


3SC halved the deficit before the interval, through Malomo Ayodeji, before levelling matters in the second half for a share of the spoils.


The other high profile fixture on Sunday

between Remo Stars and Plateau United, in Ikene also ended in a thrilling draw with, Remo Stars taking the lead, only to be pegged back by Plateau United; through Mustapha Ibrahim's 58th minute leveler.


Troubled Wikki Tourists produced an unlikely another draw, by scoring late to rescue a point, in a 1-1 draw with Abia Warriors, in an early kickoff, decided in Aba.


The other early kickoff in Awka saw Enugu Rangers edge promoted Doma United 1-0, thanks to a penalty, calmly despatched by Ebere Eze in the 40th min.


In other games decided, Lobi Stars are now Group B leaders after beating Dakkada FC of Uyo, with a goal in each half by Joseph Atule and Kumaga Suur.


19 year old Udom Ekerette and Samson Olasupo got the goals as Sunshine Stars of Akure made light work of Niger Tornadoes, 2-0 it ended in favour of the hosts, and El-kanemi Warriors needed a second half rally to hold Akwa United to a 1-1 draw, in a match the IMC said must be played behind closed stadium gates.


Despite the draws Insurance are still sitting on top of the Group A mini-table with 17 points; while Lobi Stars lead the Group B mini-table with 16 points, after seven matches.


On Saturday; a goal scored on either side of halftime, by King Osanga 10th minute, and Chinedu Ohanachom 54th minute gave Nasarawa United a much needed 2-0 victory over Kwara United, in a Day 7 match in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), played at the new Jos Stadium.


Victory for Nasarawa United, gave them their first three points of a season, which had seen them draw once, and lost 5 other games.


Meanwhile, seasoned campaigners, Enyimba of Aba came from a goal down, to edge Gombe United 2-1 at the Pantami Stadium, in Gombe.


Enyimba fought back from conceding in the 12th minute, to beating Gombe United, with Chukwuemeka Obioma netting the winner in the Group A encounter, to take his tally for the season to 5 goals. www.ckdmedia.ng report.


The Group B encounter in Yenagoa, between Bayelsa United and Rivers United was postponed indefinitely, by the IMC to allow the Pride of Rivers honour their CAF Confederation Cup, Group opener, in Congo Brazzaville.
