NPFL 2023/24 Update: Outrage Greets the Sacking of Coach Boboye By Imo State Govt.

December, 29 2023.

A visibility emotional Boboye, confirmed his lol own exit from the club, moments after he guided Heartland FC to their best outing of the season thus far, by thrashing table toppers, Remo Stars of Ikenne 3-1 at the Dan Ànyiam Stadium, in Owerri.

"Unfortunately, I won't be in the saddle for their next match , because the Chief Executive of the State has made a decision to reinstate the former coach, my brother, Coach Obi; with immediate effect "; Boboye said.

Boboye was appointed on a one year rolling contract, to take over from Coach Christian Obi, who guided the team mack to the top flight, following their relegation to the Nigeria National League (NNL), at the end of the 2021/22 NPFL Season.

But eight matches of the 2023/24 campaign, it was obvious that Heartland FC was struggling to close out matches, even when they had the lead; and that culminated to the team having only 5 points, from a possible 24 (eight matches).

Boboye, a proven tactician, who won the NPFL title with Plateau United and Akwa United, took over as Technical Adviser and Head Coach on Match Day 9, and recorded two wins, two draws and two losses, in the six games; as Heartland FC climbed off the bottom of the table to 17th, with eight additional points; www.ckdmedia.ng reports.

A teary Boboye told the media and fans who were visibly too upset to make sense out of the eye-catching display by players of Heartland FC, and the comprehensive victory over the Sky Blues of Ikenne on one hand, and the said sack order issued by Governor Hope Uzodinma on the other; that he was emotional because the reception he got from the players, fans and club management is equal to no other, since he began coaching in the NPFL.
