December, 19 2023.
The much traveled Fatai Osho was extensively reported on Monday afternoon, to have quit his position, and as head coach of the 2021 Nigeria Premier Football League Champions, Akwa United.
The much anticipated sack of Coach Osho who had previously had stints at Kogi United, Supreme Court of Abuja, Remo Stars, Enyimba of Aba, and Rivers United had to do with the Club's poor form since he took over the reigns from Coach Ayodeji Ayeni, under whose care, the club missed out on the season ending Super Six, with inferior goal difference.
The Promise Keepers have struggled under Osho’s tutelage, and their poor start to the 2023/24 season, has seen the Uyo-based outfit win only three (3) matches in fourteen (14) league matches this term, and unable to get out of the relegation zone, despite their relocation to Eket.
The last straw that broke the camel's back was Sunday’s 0-1 away to hitherto bottom of the log, Heartland FC of Owerri; and that will be recorded officially as his last game in charge of Akwa United, which ended Day-14 in 17th position on the NPFL log with 14 points.
Osho resigned his job as Chief Coach of Rivers United, a few days after the Pride of Rivers failed to defend their NPFL title, at the 2022/23 NPFL Super Six, in Lagos; and his first outing with Akwa United was to the Naija Super 8, which was as well held in Lagos.
He becomes the 4th coach on the 2023/24 managerial sack list; Christian Obi (Heartland), Tony Bolus (Katsina United), Hamza Abara (Tornadoes) were the previous three.
But the handwriting was clear for all to see, and pundits believe the Coach should learn from this; www.ckdmedia.ng reports.
He's been described as a bit too sensational and less gritty as a Professional Coach, and will do well to ascertain the true position of things, before he jumps on future offers, to avoid being tossed around.
Some pundits however reserved praise for the management of the club, led by Etubom Paul Bassey, believing that Osho ought to have been sacked weeks ago.
Others reasoned that there may be more to just the man Fatai Osho; and only time shall tell what the problems that has held down Akwa United, this far this season are.
