NPFL 2023/24: Enyimba Stun Heartland in Oriental Classic; As Doma Holds Remo Stars to Remain Tops

... Battle of Stars: Lobi vs 3SC Tops Seven Fixtures on Sunday


The resurgence of reigning champions, Enyimba Int'l FC gathered more steam on Saturday, after the Aba People's Elephant scored late, to hand their fiercest Oriental rivals, Heartland FC of Owerri, a hard fought 1-0 defeat at the Dan Ànyiam Stadium, in the heart of Owerri.


Stephen Chukwude struck the winner in the 81st minute, of the Day-9 fixture of the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL); and condemns Heartland FC along with their newly hired Technical Adviser, Kennedy Boboye to yet another defeat.

Victory in the Oriental Classic took Enyimba's tally to 16 points, with a game in hand against Remo Stars of Ikenne; and 5th on the log, on inferior goal difference, to the plus 6 of the Sky Blues.


Meanwhile, Remo Stars fired blanque in Ikenne-Remo, against visiting Doma United FC of Gombe, who are now the clear leaders, at the top of the NPFL log, with 18 points; one points clear of Lobi Stars of Makurdi, and Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan.


Day nine fixtures will continue on Sunday, with seven more fixtures; as the duel between Rivers United and Plateau United of Jos, is on hold as the Pride of Rivers are on continental duties, in Uyo against Angolan side, Academica do Lobito; in a Day-1 match of the CAF Confederation Cup, Group phase.


Another Oriental derby holds on Sunday, but this time, in Umuahia, where Abia Warriors will host fourth on the log, Enugu Rangers.


Kano Pillars and their vociferous fans will welcome Bendel Insurance of Benin, which looks to be short of confidence in recent weeks, to the Sani Abacha Stadium, in Kofarmata; while troubled Bayelsa United, which is contemplating a managerial change takes a trip to the North-West to face Katsina United, whose Technical Adviser, Tony Bulus just managed to avoid the sack.


The encounter between Gombe United and Kwara United is set for the Kwara Sports Complex; while second on the log, Lobi Stars welcomes 3rd placed 3SC of Ibadan to their adopted home in Lafia.


Akwa United will look to consolidate on their spectacular home win over Remo Stars, last week; when in Kaduna to face Niger Tornadoes of Minna, at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.
