Fresh from qualifying for the season-ending tournament, Naija Super 8 at the zonal playoffs in Eket, Akwa Ibom State. Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Katsina United have arrived in Asaba for a training camp ahead of the 2023 NNL promotional Play-offs, www.ckdmedia.ng reports.
The NNL Super 8 will feature four top teams, from the North and Southern Conferences of the nation's second tier league, and it holds at the Stephen Keshi Memorial Stadium in Asaba from July 1st, 2023.
Three of the participating teams, Heartland of Owerri (from the Southern Conference) and the Northern Conference duo of Katsina United, and Kano Pillars who the Changi Boys defeated 1-0 on Sunday in Eket, to book their place in the Naija Super 8 are all seeking immediate return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), having been relegated at the end of the 2021/22 season.
The other teams that qualified from the Southern Conference are Abeokuta Stormers SC, Sporting Lagos and FC One Rocket of Uyo. Together with Heartland of Owerri, they will face each other with the top two sides gaining promotion to the NPFL, in addition to qualifying for the semifinals.
From the Northern Conference, the duo of Kano Pillars and Katsina United, will have DMD FC of Maiduguri and Abuja-based EFCC FC to contend with, in a mini round-robin that will likewise face each other to produce two semifinalists, who are automatically promoted to the top flight.
According to the NNL Head of Media, Amar Ignis, the Draw for the fixtures and order of play will precede the tournament's kicks-off on July 1st, 2023.
