Nigeria's D'Tigers Bow Out After Gallant Loss To Cup Holders DR Congo

July, 13 2023.

Nigeria's D'Tigers put up a gallant display in their quarterfinal duel against defending champions, the Democratic Republic of Congo, before losing narrowly by 72-74 dunks.

The match played at the Luanda centre in the capital of Angola on Thursday afternoon, followed Nigeria's comfortable 71-55 victory over Gabon in their previous game, on Wednesday.

The hurridly assembled team tutored by Coach of the Rivers Hoopers of Port Harcourt, showed a lot of zeal, commitment and determination, but paid the price for lacking sharpness and match fitness, as the NBBF Premier League is rarely on session, while many other countries at the tournament just rounded off their domestic leagues.

Nigeria will next play the Harambee Stars of Kenya on Friday, in the classification game for 5th-8th, to round off their campaign at the second edition of the Afrocanbasket in Angola.

The AfroCAN is FIBA Africa's equivalent of the Championship of African Nations CHAN organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and is exclusively open to only players, who plies their trade, in their respective domestic leagues, reports.
