Navigating the World of Football Trials, Insights and Advice- Prince Fred Akhigbe

July, 4 2023.

“When I first embarked on my journey as a football agent, I was under the impression that trials were a walk in the park. I eagerly tried to assist players seeking opportunities in Europe, doing my best to help them succeed. However, the reality hit hard, and I encountered numerous closed doors along the way.

It felt like all the hope I had instilled in these aspiring players had gone to waste."

“As I gained more experience in the field, I began to understand the secret behind successful trials. It boils down to the trust established between the agent and the club, often built upon previous fruitful deals. Clubs tend to be more receptive to trial proposals from agents they have had positive experiences with.”

“Allow me to share some valuable advice with you:

Young players, seek assistance from your academy or trusted mentors who can guide you in the right direction.

Realistically, avoid aiming solely for trials at top-tier clubs. It’s important to set attainable goals.

Before signing anything, ensure you have a trustworthy and reliable agent. Don’t fall for empty promises and fairytales.

Keep in mind that not all clubs are willing to cover travel expenses. Negotiation plays a crucial role, and you should be prepared to invest your own money for the chance at a trial.

In case of any injury during a trial, the response will depend on the player’s status and the club’s budget. It’s essential to understand that any injuries incurred may result in expenses.”

“Remember, the opportunity to participate in a trial may come with its own risks. It’s important to approach it with a clear understanding of the potential outcomes and be prepared to face them head-on.”

“Through my own experiences and learning, I hope these insights and advice can shed light on the world of football trials. I want to ensure that aspiring players have realistic expectations and can make informed decisions on their journey to success. Best of luck to all of you on your football endeavors!”
