Enyimba International needed a goal deep into added time, by Mbaoma Chijioke to salvage a point, in their 1-1 draw with Remo Stars in the stand-out Day-15 fixture of the 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), played in Aba on Sunday.
Remo Stars got the opener 2 minutes before the break, through Phillip Odunia and was about to hand the People's Elephant their first home defeat of the season, when Mbaoma stuck in the 7th minute of added time.
The two sides, thus remained 2nd and 6th respectively, with Enyimba now on 25 points, 6 adrift of table topping Bendel Insurance, and 4 points clear of Remo Stars; with 3 games to the end of the regular season.
Bendel Insurance had on Saturday taken their tally to 31 points, when beating bottom club El-kanemi Warriors 2-1 in Benin, for their first victory after 5 consecutive draws.
Plateau United are in 3rd spot after edging Nasarawa United 1-0 in a derby played at the new Jos Stadium to move up to 24 points; while Shooting Stars thrashed Gombe United 3-0 in Ibadan to leap frog Remo Stars into 5th spot, and boost their chances of finishing in the top-three.
Doma United FC remained in 2nd spot, with 25 points, but are just a solitary point behind Group B leaders (Lobi Stars) after their battling 2-1 win in Gombe, over fellow promoted side, Bayelsa United.
Lobi Stars of Makurdi fell 0-1 to Sunshine Stars in Akure 1-0, and with 21 points and a match in hand, the Akure Gunners are now serious contenders for the season ending Super Six.
Another side chasing a 3rd place finish, Niger Tornadoes of Minna trounced Abia Warriors of Umuahia 3-0 in Kaduna to go level on 23 points with Rivers United, whose match against Wikki Tourists was postponed indefinitely by the IMC.
On Monday, Akwa United who are 4th in Group A will host troubled Kwara United in Uyo; same as Dakkada FC who will play host to fumbling Rangers Int'l of Enugu.
