Japanese League: Mikel Agu on the rise again in Japanese Club, Shonan Bellmare

Fringe Super Eagles player Mikel finally made his official debut in the Japanese league, after injury stopped him for some months in making his official debut.


The former FC Porto midfielder had been treated like a king ever since he arrived Japan. The club management believed so much in the talent of the combative midfielder, whose track record in the Portuguese league is quite commendable.


Agu has played both in the Portuguese league and Turkish league, before moving for proverbial Golden Fleece.


30 year old player expressed his appreciation to God, the club and the fans saying "First of all, I want to thank God Almighty for this day. I played my first official game for Shonan Bellmare, a club that has shown me so much love and supported me in difficult moments. I also want to thank the supporters of the club for their massive support. I promise to always help whenever I am given the opportunity. It’s a new level. God is always the reason", Agu posted on his Instagram page.


Mikel Agu came on from the bench at the 65' of play, in a game that ended 6-1 in favor of his team.


Agu joined Shonan Bellmare on a free transfer from Fuenlabrada, on August 31, 2022. His previous clubs includes Club Brugge, Vitória Setbal, Bursaspor, and Vitória Guimares.
