Super Eagles of Nigeria and SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor James Osimhen has been named the Serie A striker of the 2022/23 Season.
Oshimen played a pivotal role in helping Napoli win the Serie A title, by scoring 25 goals, while rendering 5 assists in the 31 games, he played for the side from Naples.
Aside his outstanding performances that made him a cult hero among Napoli fans, who are still basking in the euphoria of winning their first Sccudetto since 1990; Oshimen has also been named in the Serie A team of the Season, ckdmedia.ng reports.
Last month (May) the prolific finisher, erased the record of George Weah as the record for the highest-scoring African player in the Italian Serie A, following his winning goal in Napoli’s 1-0 win over Fiorentina, at the Diego Maradona Stadium.
Prior to that, precisely on March 7, 2023 the 24 year old Osimhen was announced winner of the Best Foreign Athlete of the year 2022, in Italy
Organizers of the award in a statement noted that the striker who is now being courted by clubs in the English Premier League, Bundesliga and even in Spain won the prize because he was found to be “fundamental to Napoli’s extraordinary success, thanks to his excellent play, great power, incredible speed and vocation for scoring goals”.
The list of award for the striker who made his breakthrough, while netting goals that helped the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria win their record fifth FIFA Under-17 World Cup title, in Qatar and is now rated €150,000 by his club, could potentially see him also win the Serie A golden boots, and African Footballer of the Year, which Nigeria last won in 1999, through Nwankwo Kanu.
