Kwara United on Sunday afternoon defeated Abia Warriors of Umuahia 1-0, in one of the seven Day-2 fixtures of the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
There was no doubting who was the starman at the Ilorin Sports Complex, as defender Isaiah Ejeh showed brilliantly in both boxes, for the Afonja Warriors in a game of two evenly matched sides.
Ejeh, a former Mjallby AIF of Sweden defender, who emulated the likes of his current teammate and veteran goalkeeper of the Harmony Boys, Dele Aiyenugba was applauded intermittently, for his masterclass defending and brilliance in front of the Abia Warriors goal.
Ejeh who returned to the country from Sweden and opted to rejoin his former team (Kwara United), capped the yeoman job, in the defense of Kwara United, by straying forward to net the only goal of the match at the stroke of halftone.
The priceless goal scored from a rebound, was against the run of play and a product of a superb counter-attack, staged after Erasmus Onuh's side failed to score from a corner-kick, at the other end.
The second half of the game was as well sparkling, with exciting moments but both team could not covert their chances, and Ejeh's first half goal was eventually the winning goal that gave kwara United their first three (3) points of the season. www.ckdmedia.ng reports.
