Is Gift Orban Heading To Tottenham Or Sevilla?

August, 14 2023.

In the wake of the resumption of top football leagues in Europe, two clubs with European pedigree; Sevilla of Spain and Tottenham Hotspur of England appear to have upped the ante in their chase of Gift Orban, the sensational goal poacher of KAA Gent FC of Belgium.

Orban, being one of the in-form top strikers in Europe that are in their early twenties, has been in demand all summer, but a combination of choice of destination on the part of the talented player and the resolve of his present club to keep him, after a spectacular debut season, last term, means a potential move away from the Belgian Jupiler League has yet to materialize.

The player is back in the transfer market news, with both Tottenham and Sevilla jostling for the right to have the 21-year-old Nigerian, who has also been on a scoring spree for Gent FC in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers and Belgian league, to sign the dotted lines for them.

Orban became an instant hit, and the rave of the moment last season, when he joined the Belgian giant in the January transfer window for a Norwegian second division club Stabæk, by registering goals in double digits, thereby helping Gent FC to earn a slot to play in the UCL qualifiers.

With their long standing Spurs captain Harry Kane joining Baverian giants Bayern Munich on Friday, the premier league side is certainly in search of a new number 9, and if the story at Sevilla is quite similar, pundits believe there may be no justification in looking farther, after Orban netted a hat-trick in the UCL less than a week ago.

So, Sevilla or Tottenham? Which of these two sides will finally be able to convince the youngster, who is on the brink of breaking into the Super Eagles, to join them? Will he remain in the Belgian Jupiler League, or jump-ship to either Spain's La Liga or the EPL?

Only time will tell, as the transfer window closes on September 01, 2023.
