Umar Sadiq has been given a late call up by Coach José Peseiro as replacement for injured Nottingham Forest of England striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, for the upcoming friendly games against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.
The gangling striker, who currently plays as a forward for Spain's La Liga club, Real Sociedad has been out of the Super Eagles squad, under Peseiro since suffering a near career threatening knee injury, not long after he joined Sociedad from Andalusian club, Almeria where he shined brightly by scoring 40 goals in about 79 games.
He however recovered from the knee injury that sidelined him for over eight months, and managed to play nine times for Sociedad in the 2022/23 season, netting just once.
So far this season in the La Liga, Sadiq has featured in all eight (8) matches for the club, which at different times had former Nigeria internationals like; Mutieu Adepoju and Finidi George in their books.
The Kaduna-born 26-year-old Sadiq last played for the Super Eagles, in the Abuja leg of Nigeria's Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier, against the Black Stars of Ghana in Abuja, in March 2022; www.ckdmedia.ng reports.
