Elkanemi Warriors of Maiduguri has appointed Aliyu Zubairu as Technical Adviser of the Nigeria National League (NNL) side, on a two year deal, www.ckdmedia.ng reports.
Zubair joins the Maiduguri outfit after parting ways with Gombe United on mutual consent, despite being on the radar of at least two Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) teams.
He however opted to sign for the Warriors who offered him a better package, and are looking to return to the elite division immediately, having been relegated from the NPFL along with Nasarawa United, Wikki Tourists of Bauchi and Dakkada FC of Uyo.
"I signed for El-kanemi Warriors after considering other clubs jostling for my signature. As a former player, I'm also move to give something back to the club and there may not be a better way to do this, than help in steering them back to the NPFL in the upcoming season", Coach Zubair said.
He expressed happiness with the conditions of his contract and described his move as home coming, being that nothing was strange to him at the club during his days as a player, and even now as the head coach.
According to him, the club recognizes his outstanding antecedents, first as a player and now as a trained coach. More so, he was born and raised in Maiduguri, hence he didn't hesitate to come and give a helping hand when the management of the club approached him.
"My first duty will be to stabilize the team, build into the players already here and those that would soon join us, the level of confidence needed to make them highly competitive. With such, the task of regaining promotion at the end of the season, would be much more easier", the Sweat Marchant said.
He frowned at the manner in which the team got relegated, after just one season in the top flight league and urged the fans, and people of Maiduguri to rally round him and the club with a view of taking El-kanemi Warriors back to the premier league.
