Ekong Name Watford New Captain

The Super Eagles assistant captain, Troost Ekong has now been named Watford FC captain following the departure of club legend, Troy denney.


It was however a mix feelings for the Nigeria international as Watford suffered a home defeat in the hands of Wolves on the day Ekong led the team out.


The visitors made their intentions of winning the game known as they were the better team in the opening half, missing two big chances and dominated larger part of the ball possession.


Super Eagles striker, Emmanuel Denis tested Wolves goalie Sa after he was played through by his international compatriot Oghenekaro Etebo but could not find the back of the net.


Wolves would then benefit from a own-goal to take the lead with 16 minutes before stoppage after Watford defender Francisco Sierralta directed a corner into his own net.


Watford poured out in their numbers in search of the equalizer, they poked and knocked but could not break the defence of Wolves.


Hwang Hee-Chan would later double Wolves lead on 83rd minute to put salt on the wound of Watford as the game ended 0 - 2 in favour of the visitors.


Ekong has now joined the likes of Austin Okocha and Joseph Yobo who have captained an English Premier League team during their playing days.
