December, 8 2021.

Chairman of the Nigeria Weightlifting Medical and Anti-doping Committee, Dr Steve Olarinoye has described the recent success of Seven Nigeria weighlifters who all tested negative during an Anti-Doping exercise in Kogi as a reflection of the Federation zero tolerance to drugs abuse.

Dr Steve who led the examination, expresses satisfaction on the 7 athletes for living up to World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) rules for the 2021 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan which started on Tuesday.

While applauding President of Nigeria Weight lifting Federation, Dr Ibrahim Abdul for his unalloyed committments, he added

that the federation will continue to strengthen it's standard by organising seminars and workshops for the athletes on regular bases.

"The tests and results were made possible because of the listening and good leadership we have presently at the federation in person of our young and vibrant President, Dr Ibrahim Abdul who listens and carries the board members along.”

“After the championship, seminars will continuously be organised on the effects of consumption of prohibited drugs,” he said.

Despite the success recorded by NWF, the International Testing Agency, ITA is expected to conduct its own tests on the weighlifters before the end of the championship.
