Celestine Babayaro Thumbs-up IMC, Elegbeleye, Backs Former DG NSC to Evolve NPFL Into a Global Brand

June, 9 2023.

Former Super Eagles defender, Celestine Babayaro has reserved special praise for the Interim Management Committee (IMC) and its leadership for their remarkable achievement, in restoring the lost glory of the nation's top flight league, within their short reign.

Babayaro who was a prominent member of the Nigerian Dream Team that won the men's football gold medal at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, USA noted that the innovations introduced by the IMC and the will they have to do the right thing, has paid off fantastically.

"I congratulate the LMC, especially its Chairman, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye for the tremendous changes he has brought to breath life back into the Nigerian Premier League. Since taking over, under a year now, the stocks of the NPFL have appreciated, and the league has not been the same again", he said.

The former Chelsea man, who is now a Football Agent, noted that from his personal assessment, and the testimony of players, ex-players, and coaches he has spoken to, everybody is of the same opinion, that the league has been transformed a great deal.

"Everything has changed, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye has brought joy to the faces of the Nigerian population; but I'm not surprised, I knew him when he was the Director General of the National Sports Commission, his antecedence and taste for excellence has been infused into the Nigerian Premier League, and it is welcome development", Babayaro added.

He expressed optimism that if Elegbeleye is given the opportunity, he has what it takes to do much more, transform everything; and the NPFL would be accorded the right recognition, not only in Nigeria, but in Africa and the whole World.
