CAF U-20 AFCON: Abel Ogwuche Salutes Coach Ladan Bosso After Scooping Man of the Match Award

March, 3 2023.

The Technical Committee in-charge of the CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations, on Thursday, announced Flying Eagles defender, Abel Oguche as Man of the Match for the Nigeria versus Hippos of Uganda quarter final duel, at the ongoing tournament, in Egypt.

An opportunistic goal in the 30 minute, saw the ball rebound from the foot of the post, onto Ibrahim Juma and straight into an empty net as Nigeria edged out Uganda 1-0, in the second quarterfinal played on Thursday.

Interestingly, it was the first match Ogwuche started and finished at the tournament, largely due to the unavailability of Captain Daniel Bamayi, who was suspended for yellow cards, acumulation,

in the Group phase.

For the entire duration of the hard fought encounter, Ogwuche was a class act, making several good interceptions, winning ground and ariel duels, and rarely put a foot wrong for the entire 90 mins.

Speaking after he was presented his award, Ogwuche said he was pleased to have helped the Flying Eagles achieve their main objective in Egypt, that's qualify for the FIFA World Cup in Indonesia.

"it is one thing to be so trusted by the coaching staff, led by Ladan Bosso; but a different thing to not just meet their expectation. I had a very good partnership with Benjamin Fredrick of Nasarawa United, and that made it a lot more easier to play with utmost freedom", he said.

Having qualified for the World Cup and Semifinals, the defender who plays in the Swedish league, is backing the Flying Eagles to go one step better, by reaching the final.

Nigeria are record seven time African Champions at this level, and reaching the final is an opportunity to win another CAF Under-20 title, and further extend the record the Flying Eagles currently holds.
