Bittersweet for Nigeria Teams as IHF Continental Trophy Begins in Congo

January, 17 2023.

It was mixed fortunes of results for Nigeria's Under-18 and Under-20 Men's teams on the Opening day of the International Handball Federation IHF Continental Trophy, Challenge, which got underway earlier today, in Brazaville, capital of the Congo.

The National Under 18 team under the tutelage of Coach Emeka Nnamani showed grit, while making a statement, that they were in Brazzaville for serious business.

The team comfortably defeated Burundi 45 - 30; but the National Under 20 team, came up short as they lost 26-28 to Guinea in a keenly fought encounter, whose outcome left many of the players, disappointed.

Coach Fidelis Obi who is the gaffer of the Junior national side, had a hectic time, consoling the downcast players, while assuring them that they still have a chance of changing their fortune when facing Madagascar at 9am on Tuesday.

The Youth team, that is the Under 18s, are also in action on Tuesday, and would be hoping to build on their good form and opening day win.

The encounter against the tournament hosts, Congo is scheduled for 3pm in Nigeria and in Congo, and is potentially seen by many as an explosive match up.
