Speaking on the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Austrian Bomber, as he's called said "that world cup was the best moment of my life, playing against England in packed stadium. I remember all of the players who came in to the team with me at that time; Femi Opabunmi, Eric Ejiofor, Justice Christopher. It is something I cannot forget".

Benedict Akwegbu played 35 times for the Super Eagles, scoring 10 goals in total, between 1999-2005
