Bendel Insurance Extends Unbeaten Run To Ten Matches

Promoted Bendel Insurance continued laying down the marker in this season's Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) by holding eight time Champions, Enyimba Int'l to a pulsating 1-1 draw in Aba, in the Pick of Matchday 10 games, played on Sunday.


A share of the spoils, meant Insurance remains on top of the Group A log with a haul of 24 points, while Enyimba reclined from 2nd on the Group a log to fourth, on 17 points.


Bendel Insurance also becomes the first team to score against the People's Elephant in Aba;

Meanwhile, the struggles of Nasarawa United continued, as the Solid Miners fell 0-1 to Remo Stars in Ikene; Kwara United spanked harpless visitors, El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri 2-0 ; same scoreline with which Plateau United defeated

Gombe United in Jos.


Elsewhere at the Godswill Apkabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa United humbled Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan 2-0.


In Group B, Enugu Rangers rallied from a goal down to edge fellow strugglers, Bayelsa United 2-1 in Awka; Rivers United needed a late goal to force a 1-1 draw with Abia Warriors of Umuahia. But the Pride of Rivers are now level on 19 points with the leaders, Lobi Stars who got trashed 2-0 at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe, by promoted Doma United; and in nearby Bauchi, it was honours evenly shared as Wikki Tourists drew 1-1 with Sunshine Stars of Akure.


On Saturday, Niger Tornadoes of Minna edged Dakkada FC of Uyo 2-1 as the NPFL resumed from its mid-season and General Elections break.

Tornadoes raced into the lead as early as the 6th minute, through David Okoromi and Emmanuel Jonas doubled the advantage for the Ikon Allah Boys, 9 minutes later.


The home side halved the deficit through Aniekan Okon Ekpe from the penalty spot, deep into second half stoppage time; but that was all, as Tornadoes ran away with all 3 points, and the first road win of the second stanza.


The victory means Tornadoes increased their points tally to 15, and moved from seventh on the Group B log to fourth; while Dakkada FC remained bottom of the log, with 7 points from 10 games played. Www.ckdmedia.ng report.


Day 11 of the NPFL continues this midweek, with a full programme of ten matches to be decided in both Groups of the top flight league, at designated match venues.
