In line with recent moves to reposition Abia Warriors for optimum performance, Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Abia Warriors of Umuahia have Unveiled Augustine Njoku as the club's new Captain, with immediate effect.
It means Njoku will wear the armed band and lead out the rest of the Abia Warriors squad, for the delayed Day-4 encounter against Lobi Stars of Makurdi, at the Lafia township stadium, on Sunday.
The encounter originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, was moved forward by 24 hours, on the request of the Benue State Football Association, following a spate of killings and insecurity concerns, that rocked Oturpko town, on Friday.
Lobi Stars are hosting their home games this season, in neighbouring Lafia, as their usual heaven, the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi is still under renovation.
Njoku, who was part of Coach Ladan Bosso’s team to WAFU B Tournament, in Niamey, that won the trophy, was also part of the Nation's Cup, and the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, hosted by Argentina.
As a matter of fact, he was one of the players who from abinitio , started the Under-20 camp with Coach Ladan Bosso, and ended up playing the three major tournaments; WAFU, AFCON and the World Cup.
The cool-headed right full-back, is reputed for his enterprising overlapping runs, and has been a professional to the core, both on and off the field of play.
Speaking with www.ckmedia.ng about his role as the new captain of Abia Warriors, Njoku had this to say.
“I'm glad to have been named the Captain of a team like Abia Warriors. It’s a sign that I’m doing well, and the club is proud of me. I will try as much as I can, to make my reign productive, memorable and build a strong team spirit.
“As players of Abia Warriors, we'll give it our best this season and hopefully, hard-work and luck will smile on us, to pick a continental ticket”.
