Following their second place finish in Group B behind leaders Lobi Stars, Akwa United will take on NPFL new boys Sporting Lagos FC in the semi final of the maiden edition of the Naija Super 8 tournament on Friday afternoon.
Akwa United defeated Yobe Stars 2-1, beat Rivers United 1-0 before losing to Lobi Stars 2-0 in their last group game after qualifying to the semi final courtesy of their six points from three games.
Sporting Lagos made it to the last four after finishing top of group A with seven points from three games. They held Enyimba International to a goalless draw, defeated Remo Stars 2-1 and beat Katsina United 1-0 in the final group game to make it to the semis.
Akwa United and Sporting Lagos will be meeting each other for the first time and the winner will advance to Sunday's final of the tournament.
