Shooting Stars sports club of Ibadan have terminated the contracts of 17 first team players whose contracts with the club are yet to run out.
This latest decision comes four days after the clubs' two nil defeat to Lobi stars in Makurdi, a result that has left the Oyo state owned club in 13th position with twenty points from 17 matches.
One might be thinking that the Oluyole warriors with all their pedigree as a traditional club should know that players with existing contracts cannot be sent packing without following due process as enshrined in the laws guiding the Nigeria professional football league.
Perhaps, it is high time the leadership of League management company, LMC critically look into this matter so as to protect the interest of players in the domestic league.
Ebenezer Odeyemi who joined the team from MFM of Lagos, was part of the players that was shown the exit door same as Wasiu Alalade.
Former Akwa United striker, Kola Daniel whose goal gave 3SC the maximum points against Kwara United, was also sent packing.
Interestingly, both players scored against Kwara United only recently in one of the star games of the season.
Reports reaching www.ckdmedia.ng revealed that most of the sacked players are regulars in the team.
Goalkeeper Charles Tambe who has been in goal in most of their matches this season was also sacked by the club.
