2023 NPFL: Rivers United Bank on Paul Acquah's Goals to Close Gap on Group B Leader, Lobi Stars

March, 14 2023.

The very last outstanding game of the 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), between Rivers United and Enugu Rangers will be played on Wednesday at the Adokiye Amasiemeka Stadium, in Port Harcourt.

Victory in the rescheduled game, for

for the in-form Rivers United will see them close the gap between them and Group B leaders, Lobi Stars of Makurdi to just one point.

To do that, head Coach of the reigning NPFL Champions, Stanley Eguma who last week complained of the physical exhaustion his players have been through while playing in the domestic top flight and CAF's Confederation Cup, said he will be counting on Ghanaian import, Paul Acquah to continue his good run of goal scoring form, by ensuring that the 3 points at stake are kept in the Garden City.

"Paul has really done well for himself and the team, but he's not the only one that can get us the goals. I won't mind though, if his goals can win us the match against Rangers, or any other team", Eguma said.

Rivers United are currently on 15 points, 1 point ahead of 3rd placed Abia Warriors and victory against Rangers will take their points tally to 18, one solitary point adrift of Lobi Stars.

The Pride of Rivers have been somewhat plucky in the NPFL, managing just 2 points, from the 2 draws in their last games, against Bayelsa United and Abia Warriors, but on the continent they have been in imperious form, winning their last 3 games, home to ASEC Mimosas of Côte d'Ivoire, and doing the double over DC Motema Pembe of DR Congo; to top Group B of the Confederation Cup.

Remarkably, goals by Paul Acquah have been very crucial in this run of results, and should the Ghanaian replicate this form in the domestic league, the Flying Antelopes who are currently 7th on the table with 9 points from 8 games played, could be in for more misery.
