April, 22 2023.
The 2023 edition of the Greensprings Kanu Football Camp, for boys and girls between ages of 5 and 17 years has ended in Lagos, with over 200 children of primary and secondary school ages, taking part in the five-day event.
The intensive training program which had instructors from the Netherlands and the Lagos State Football Association taught the participants fundamental football skills and live skills designed to empower children through their education, and beyond.
The camp, a brain child of former Super Eagles Captain, Nwankwo Kanu has till date trained over 2,000 children and awarded full academic scholarships to 11 of them, at Greensprings School, in Lagos.
Two other children, who performed exceptionally well, (Ayomide Emmanuel and Ayomide Adeniyi) were the 2023 Awardees, and that brought the tally of academic scholarships awarded to 13 children.
www.ckdmedia.ng has it on good authority that four of these children are already in Europe, where they are pursuing their academic studies, while playing football for clubs with the prospect of signing lucrative contracts, as professional footballers, in the near future.
We also understand that at least five (5) of the exceptional children, have so far featured in the nation's Under-17 men's team (the Golden Eaglets) at some point, with 2 of them (Jubril Azeez and Light Eke) currently in the squad, being steered by legendary Nduka Ugbade, for the upcoming Under-17 Afcon, in Algeria.
They were first recruited into the Golden Eaglets squad for the West African Football Union Under-17 Championship in 2022, and the talented duo are primed to make the final squad of players that would represent Nigeria in Algeria and secure a ticket to the 2023 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Peru.
In addition to this, over 200 grassroots coaches in Lagos State have been trained by the International coaches invited. These coaches have also gone on to impact the lives of children at the grassroot levels and beyond.
The Greensprings Kanu Football Camp is a collaboration between Greensprings School and the Kanu Heart Foundation, with the projection of nurturing the program into a full fledged football academy, but has been weighed down by paucity of funds, and the lack of sponsorship.
Interested individuals and corporate Nigeria, with a passion for football and the all-round development of children, are warmly welcomed to partner with Greensprings School and Nwankwo Kanu as sponsors and strategic partners to support this laudable project.
